My Journey

I read chemistry and mathematics at Keele University, gaining the year prize for chemistry in the first two years of the course. In the final year I obtained a double first class honours.

After that I completed a PhD in chemistry (Drug release characteristics of certain polymers and how chemical post modification can influence these properties).

Possessing a certain level of wanderlust , I carried out postdoctoral research at Boston University (Massachusetts) for two years.

Arriving back in the UK, I worked in the chemical industry for nearly 20 years in both a research and managerial capacity. During this period of time (1998), I was asked if I would tutor a student who was studying, and struggling with, A-levels in mathematics and the sciences. She wanted to be a vet, so I also tutored for the UKCAT examination. She gained a place to read Veterinary Sciences at Oxford University. This ignited in me a passion for teaching.

Within the educational area, I have successfully taught mathematics and science up to A-level standard. I progressed from being a teacher to Head of Department (maths and science) to being Headteacher.

Additionally, I have acted on a consultatory basis to turn around the A-level chemistry teaching at a secondary school in Pembrokeshire, West Wales.

All aspects of science and technology fascinate me (and always will). It is this fascination coupled with extensive experience in science which comes across in my teaching. Both students and parents appreciate my “no nonsense” and direct approach which has proven to be very successful. It’s all about quality over quantity for me as I am not running a “tuition factory” but rather one to one sessions that are well planned and tailor made for each individual
